The 50 Brightest Stars
The image painted on the base grid is the relevant 5,920 light year x 5,920 light year section of the modified European Space Agency's (ESA) Milky Way map.The base grid parallels the galactic plane, and lies 374 light years below the actual galactic plane. The circle around the Sun has a radius of 750 light years. Nearly all the 50 brightest stars lie within or on the circle around the Sun of radius 750 light years. The exceptions are α Cyg (3,230 light years away), δ CMa (1,800 light years away) and ε Ori (1,300 light years away).
